115th Alumni Banquet

Each year a committee of Greene Central School graduates plans the annual alumni banquet. It is not entirely evident (to me) how the core members of the committee have come to be, however, there is always, additionally, at least one representative from the 25- and 50-year class. (Technically, the 25-year class is “hosting” the banquet to honor the 50-year class.) Additionally, representatives from the 20-, 30-, 35-, 40-, and 45-year classes are also asked to attend the meetings, as these classes are also being honored.
The 25-year class chooses the band/disc jockey, decorations and provides the emcee for the evening. The location (Baron’s Inn), time, and agenda for the evening are preset. The rest of “us” basically take notes in order to “pass on” the information.
When you make your reservation, your name, along with that of your guest, will be given to the committee secretary…indicating the year in which you graduated. If your significant other graduated from GCS in a year other than 1967, he/she will still be entered as 1967. Why? Because it will be assumed that he/she would like to sit with you. If another year is given, they may be sitting alone at a table designated for that class.
If your reservation is NOT made by August 24th, there is NO guarantee that you will be sitting with the Class of ‘67 (hmmmm…now there’s food for thought).
There is a two hour cocktail hour that begins at 4:00. Please plan to be at Baron’s no later than 5:00 to ensure that we are all there for our “Class of ‘67” photograph. You and your “date” are going to have to sign in and claim your nametags, which Amy is preparing, before joining the festivities! (As to be expected, our class’s nametags will be different than the others, so they should be easy to spot.) Cost of the photo is $20.00, which includes the cost of mailing. Even if you do not wish to make this purchase, PLEASE come and be in the photo.
“What do I wear?” is a question that has already been fielded. Recommended is business casual (whatever that is)…some of the older alumni will be wearing suits and dresses. It’s not a “jeans” affair; just be comfortable in whatever you choose. Does that make sense?
Understandably, many of us have varied feelings about the alumni banquet. Hopefully you will appreciate it as both a unique and significant tradition.
